Intellectual and developmental disabilities can cause complications for someone trying to live a normal life. That said, they should still be able to participate in many of the activities that other people might; they simply need the help that a Direct Support Professional (DSP) can provide.
At TeamCare, we’re committed to making sure that your loved one can participate in activities that enrich their lives. These include everything from shopping to going to the gym. It also means getting involved in community events, which allows your loved one to feel more connected to where they live.
Below, you’ll learn everything you need to know about our Individual Supports / Community Based Support services.
Individual Supports / Community Based supports in New Jersey
Along with making sure your loved one can interact with the world outside their door, we also make sure they’re able to live comfortably in their home.
How this service works will depend on the needs of your loved one, but it can encompass everything from helping them perform chores to helping them perform daily tasks like cooking , cleaning and/or dressing themselves.
Humans are social creatures, which means that everyone needs to be put in environments where they can interact with others. While family members provide an important social structure, it’s important to go beyond that.
That’s why community-based support is so important: we’ll help your loved one engage in the environment where they can make friends and develop the social skills that are so important to their well-being. As well, our experts are prepared to help ensure that your loved one is able to be comfortable and protected while breaking outside their social comfort zone.
Along with the importance of social interaction, community support also allows your loved one to get a greater sense of independence by going shopping and participating in other errands that adults typically need to perform.
We understand that the caregiver relationship is founded on trust. For that reason, we offer two different methods for finding the right DSP for your loved one.
The first is agency-directed. This means we’ll comb through all of our personnel files to determine who would be the best match for your loved one and their needs. Once we’ve agreed on the right match, the DSP can be seamlessly integrated into your life.
The second is parent/relative hire. If you’d like to take care of your loved one, we provide you with the training you need to become a DSP. This allows you to get paid for the care you provide to your loved one.
At TeamCare, we understand how difficult it can be to take care of a loved one with special needs. It can be difficult to take care of your own needs while also making sure your loved one is happy and healthy.
At TeamCare, we provide support for people of all ages. At every step of the way, we’re committed to ensuring that you and your loved ones are happy with the services received.
